Why MyoBio Exists

It was never really about exercise.

I learned that long before MyoBio had a name.

My grandfather walked two miles every day. Rain or shine. He would shower, put on slacks, a polo and a pair of sturdy leather shoes, pour a cup of coffee, and go.

As he got older, his knee started to hurt. The explanation was familiar: arthritis, age, an old Navy body. The walks got shorter. Then they stopped. Travel became harder. Errands took more out of him. The world he and my grandmother Elizabeth enjoyed began getting smaller.

He did not want a six-pack. He did not want to spend his life in a gym. He wanted his knee to cooperate so he could travel, get on the boat, walk where he wanted to walk, and keep doing life with the person he loved.

That distinction fitness as a way to preserve choice that stayed with me.

Where the Idea Started

A smaller world can happen one compromise at a time.

There was no single dramatic moment. A painful knee changed the shoes. The walks shortened. Trips needed more places to sit. Driving the RV became harder. Eventually the camper and the boat were gone, and so were pieces of the life those things made possible.

That is the part I remember. Not a number on a scale or a test result. I remember watching capability disappear and seeing how much of ordinary life went with it.

MyoBio grew out of a very simple question: what does your body need to be able to do so that you still have choices?

Three Decades Later

The question is still the same.

The Navy gave me an early foundation in physical readiness. More than thirty years in fitness and personal training added the rest: coaching people through strength, injury histories, surgeries, setbacks, changing bodies, changing schedules and changing priorities.

That experience did not make me believe in one perfect exercise or one perfect program. It did the opposite. The useful plan is the one built around the person standing in front of me, their history, their goals, their limitations and the life they are trying to protect or expand.

The question is not, “What do you need to change?”
It is: “What do you want more of?”
