The Worst Fitness Advice EVER …

The most overrated advice I've ever heard is "This worked for me " Usually coming from a friend, coworker , or neighbor in the walking group. It sounds friendly but it's very misleading and can derail a fitness journey, especially if the person is already frustrated. First off fitness isn't transferable like a hand-me-down pair of jeans.

Anecdotal advice skips the nuance of genetics, injuries, stress load, and recovery ability. Things that made it possible for one person but irrelevant for another. I have seen this often in the twenty years I have in the industry.

Primarily from clients coming back from injury or managing high stress. They try to copy a friend's "miracle program," only to find it collides with their bio-mechanics, timing, and capacity to adapt. Bodies aren't interchangeable, and advice without context usually creates more frustration than progress.

It doesn't help that we live in an increasingly instafluencer world where the information becomes confusing and even more generic. Especially when it's wrapped up in comedy clips or tight spandex crop tops. A bench press is a bench press until you start talking about arm length, volume, load , bar path, angle, etc. What works instead is precision: assess how someone actually moves, load them according to their current capacity, and adjust as their body adapts. That is how training becomes beneficial. When can focus in the individual achievement and not another tidbit of random advice
